In this story, Australian Prime Minister, Julia Gillard, recognizing the chaos that food insecurity is having with nations across the globe, pledges $47 million (AUD) in new initiatives for overcoming food shortages in developing nations.

 

The German chemical company, BASF has applied for EU approval to produce and distribute a GMO potato, Fortuna.  It is the second GMO potato for BASF, the first being called Amflora.  Fortuna was designed to resist late blight, the world’s most damaging potato disease.
